The Word of God must become incarnate in the life of the preacher (and every other follower of Jesus- addition mine) Solitude is the furnace of transformation, and stoking the inner fire is the wisdom of silence…words born of silence convey intimate, affective, and loving knowledge of the Lord Jesus. In the prophet Hosea, God speaks the way an enchanted young man might woo his beloved: “I am going to lure her and lead her out into the desert; there, I will speak to her. (2:16) Dismiss silence and solitude as trophies reserved for monks and cloistered nuns, and the consequences for discipleship are predictable.
